Day one: Portfolio Clinic
27th October 2004 - Fabrica, Brighton
dSCAPE/04 kicked off with the Portfolio Clinic, an opportunity for digital media creatives to get advice from some of the region's most successful designers.
The evening was aimed at established and emerging creatives, including multimedia design students, recent graduates, freelancers and those in the industry looking to develop their careers.
Representatives from companies ranging from animation, web design, games and e-learning were on hand to talk about how their companies have succeeded and what they look for in potential new employees, as well as view and advise on portfolios and answer any questions. The line up consisted of 72 Dots, Babel Media, Designate, Epic, Get Frank, Liquid Light, Nixon McInnes, Red Design and Republique.
Each company representative gave a brief introduction to their company then the focus was on the one-to-one sessions. Using laptops attendees were able to show their work and get feedback from the experts.
Sheila Woodbridge from Quirst felt the evening was inspiring and gave her a lot to think about, "I've had a chance to show my work to some really good companies and make some great contacts. Over all it's been very exciting." Representatives from the companies also found the session valuable (if exhausting!) and felt they gained a useful insight into the range of skills being taught at colleges and the quality of emerging designers out there. Chloé Giusti from Babel Media said "It's been really interesting talking to everyone and hopefully we've given them something to think about".
The event was sponsored by Business Link Sussex, University of Sussex, City College Brighton and Hove, Dark Star Brewery, Danes Ltd. (Tuaca) and Any Event Bars.
