Surface Impression produces web sites and printed material for cultural and educational organisations. Our clients include the Arts Council, BBC, National Archives, British Council, Peak District National Park, museums, arts organisations, local authorities, charities, publishers and educational institutions. We’re known for our innovative, high quality work and our ‘can do’ attitude.

Job Description: The producer role that we have to offer is to help us create new web sites and to manage improvements with older sites that are already running for our clients. The tasks that will be undertaken include:
  • Helping produce site maps, wireframe diagrams and static designs for new sites
  • Preparing text, images, audio files and video clips
  • Keeping track of project schedules and tasks
  • Entering and updating site content via our content management system Content Curator
  • Attending client meetings
  • Preparing feedback reports for clients
  • Monitoring web site statistics and highlighting trends and/or concerns
  • Responding to support requests from clients and forwarding them on to relevant staff

Training will be given and you will be part of a friendly and relaxed team with a real desire to do good work!

We are flexible regarding the position being 12 weeks part-time or 6 weeks full-time.

Skills Range: Essential
  • A desire to learn
  • Pleasant and professional manner on the phone and in meetings
  • Empathy for the end user and a desire to make things as accessible and usable as possible
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • An interest in new advances in online communication, “Web 2.0”
  • An interest in arts and culture

Desirable (but can be part of training)

  • An understanding of information architecture and what makes the web tick
  • Graphic design skills
  • Coding skills: HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Software: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash – though we’re always impressed by hand
  • coding and use of alternative packages!
